This role is for a Principal Clinical Psychologist (Band 8b) in the Adult Acute Inpatient Service and High Dependency Rehabilitation Service, part of the First Response pathway.
The post aims to develop acute pathway psychology services within the Trust, demonstrating a commitment to improved psychological care for patients, families, and staff in inpatient services in Cheshire West. It is part of establishing a sustainable psychology workforce with new Consultant Clinical Psychologist posts already recruited.
The role involves working across two inpatient wards, a PICU, and a rehabilitation ward, within an established psychology team including a Consultant, Clinical Psychologists, Trainee Psychologists, and Assistant Psychologists. There are opportunities to tailor the work to the applicant's interests and skills.
As Principal Clinical Psychologist, you will provide clinical and professional leadership within the inpatient service in the West locality. Responsibilities include delivering highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions, contributing to care and discharge planning, and supporting staff through reflective practice and debriefs.
You will develop and maintain a high-quality, evidence-based psychology service for patients accessing the First Response and Rehabilitation Services. Collaboration with local leadership and clinical networks to enhance psychological care, along with providing training, supervision, and consultancy to staff, will be key. The role includes providing placements for Trainee Clinical Psychologists and working with local training programs.
Continued Professional Development is supported. The role involves strategic service evaluation, audit, research, and quality improvement. Research is encouraged through the Trust’s R&D department.
