Job Description:

Position: Principal Civil Structural Engineer

Location: GHD Newcastle, Manchester or Leeds Office.

Reports to: Team Leader

Role Purpose: Join our dynamic team at GHD as a Senior / Principal Civil/Structural Engineer. In this role, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects within budget and timescales, ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Civil and Structural design, preparation of supporting calculations, and managing the preparation of technical drawings for a wide range of projects in all usual materials and structural forms.
  • Responsibility for smaller projects or elements of larger projects.
  • Assisting with day-to-day financial and commercial management of engineering commissions to time and budget targets.
  • Supervision, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of less experienced team members.
  • Interpretation and application of relevant client, industry, and GHD standards.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Application of Engineering principles.
  • Computer-Aided Design and Modelling and Design Development.

Critical Relationships: The Principal Civil Structural Engineer reports to a Team Leader and collaborates with all stakeholders, including Project Managers, Design Managers, Technical Leads, and across disciplines to achieve the best project outcomes.

Specific Experience, Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experience in structural and civil engineering design across water and industrial sectors, including water retaining structures, above and below ground structures, and buildings, ideally in a variety of structural forms and materials.
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering, designing retaining walls and foundations.
  • Experience in the preparation and checking of well-presented design calculations, notes, reports, and general correspondence.
  • Ability to present an understanding of how other building engineering factors may influence the successful implementation of design ideas.
  • Conversant with Eurocodes and leading industry analysis and design software.
  • Experience in 3D Revit modelling and BIM processes.
  • Understanding of multi-disciplinary design processes.
  • Experience in leading and managing projects.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Degree in a relevant engineering field, including advanced structural analysis and design.
  • Attained or close to Chartered Engineer accreditation with the IStructE or ICE.
  • Experience in mentoring junior team members.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used within the water, transportation, and/or industrial, energy sectors is an advantage.
  • Experience with structural design software such as Tekla/TEDDS, Robot is essential.
