This role offers flexible working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and flexible start and finish times.

At Sweco, we draw upon a knowledge base of 22,000 experts across Northern Europe, applying global knowhow locally across the full spectrum of water engineering and management services. We have a proven track record of transferring innovations into the UK water industry, including work on AMP7 Frameworks with 7 of the 12 UK water and sewerage companies.

Our water engineering consultants are world leaders, addressing demands for drinking water, waste recycling, and operational technology asset management.

Through innovative, TOTEX-focused solutions, Sweco helps clients outperform cost and carbon targets. We are committed to future-focused solutions for upcoming societal challenges.

We will support your technical development to help you become a Difference Maker, developing sustainable and innovative solutions. Join a growing team dedicated to achieving excellent client outcomes.

What does the role involve?

As Lead Design Engineer within our water team, you will oversee design solutions, coordinate with disciplines, and provide technical guidance and training. Responsibilities include managing projects from conception to completion, supporting project managers, undertaking detailed design work, assessing design changes, and contributing to process improvements.

You will also assist in business development activities, including preparing capability statements, pre-qualification questionnaires, and building client relationships to secure repeat work.

What we’re looking for from you:
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (e.g., ICE or CIWEM).
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with excellent communication abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of water and wastewater non-infrastructure design, including multidisciplinary integration.
  • Extensive experience in design, contract and tender preparation, assessment, and administration.
