Job Description:

Join us to transform society.

We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Principal Civil Engineer to join our design team in Bristol as part of a multidisciplinary department providing detailed designs for water-related projects in the UK. This role offers flexible working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and options for adjusted start and finish times.

At Sweco, we draw upon a combined knowledge base of 22,000 experts across Northern Europe. Our expertise spans technologies, skills, and inventive solutions, allowing us to apply global know-how locally across the full spectrum of water engineering and water management services. We have a proven record of transferring innovation from other countries and sectors into the UK water industry, including work on AMP7 Frameworks with 7 of the 12 UK water and sewerage companies.

Our water engineering consultants are world leaders, addressing demands for drinking water, waste recycling, and operational technology asset management.

Sweco is committed to future-focused, innovative, and TOTEX-driven solutions that help clients outperform business plan targets in terms of cost and operational carbon. We aim to develop sustainable solutions for future challenges today.

We will support your technical development, helping you become a Difference Maker and develop innovative solutions. You will join a growing team of engineers working collaboratively for the best client outcomes.

We seek individuals who can challenge conventional thinking and work collaboratively to meet various business, environmental, and regulatory challenges. The role offers opportunities to broaden and diversify your expertise.

What does the role involve?

As Lead Design Engineer within our water team on non-infrastructure projects, you will undertake and review design solutions, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide technical guidance and support. You will be involved in projects from conception to completion, supporting project managers, managing design outputs, assessing changes, and ensuring delivery within time, cost, and quality constraints. You will also participate in business development activities, including preparing capability statements and building client relationships.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it with a relevant institution such as ICE or CIWEM.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working skills, with excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in water and wastewater non-infrastructure design, including multidisciplinary integration like process engineering and MEICA.
  • Extensive experience in design, contract and tender preparation, assessment, and contract administration.

What’s in it for you?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sweco, a company that offers a diverse and stimulating workload with genuine career progression opportunities. If you have the required skills and are eager to contribute to societal transformation, we would love to hear from you.

Let’s transform society together at Sweco!
