Job Description:

Join us to transform society.

We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Principal Civil Engineer to join our design team in Birmingham as part of a multi-disciplinary department providing detailed designs for water-related projects in the UK. This role offers flexible working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and flexible start and finish times.

At Sweco, we leverage a combined knowledge base of 22,000 experts across Northern Europe. Our technologies, skills, and innovative solutions enable us to deliver comprehensive lifecycle services in water engineering and water management. We have a proven track record of transferring innovations into the UK water industry, including work on AMP7 Frameworks with 7 of the 12 UK water and sewerage companies.

Our water engineering consultants are world leaders, addressing demands for drinking water, waste recycling, and operational technology asset management.

Through innovative, TOTEX-focused solutions, Sweco helps clients outperform business targets in cost and operational carbon. We are committed to future-oriented solutions that address upcoming challenges today.

We will support your development as a technical expert, helping you become a Difference Maker with sustainable and innovative solutions. Join a growing team working towards optimal client outcomes.

We seek individuals who can challenge conventional thinking and collaborate to meet diverse business, environmental, and regulatory challenges. The role offers opportunities to broaden and diversify your expertise.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Acting as Lead Design Engineer on non-infrastructure projects, overseeing design solutions and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Providing technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues, including mentoring.
  • Managing projects from conception to completion, including client briefings, deliverables, milestones, methodology, and quality assurance.
  • Conducting detailed design work, reviewing outputs such as calculations, drawings, and reports to ensure optimal solutions.
  • Communicating design changes, managing project timelines, costs, and quality requirements.
  • Participating in project close-out meetings and suggesting improvements to policies and processes.

Additionally, you will assist in business development activities, including preparing capability statements, PQs, expressions of interest, tenders, and maintaining client relationships.

Candidate requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it with an institution like ICE or CIWEM.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills, with excellent communication abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in water and wastewater non-infrastructure design, including multidisciplinary integration.
  • Experience in design, contract and tender preparation, assessment, and contract administration.

What we offer:

An exciting opportunity to join a company that offers a diverse workload, career progression, and a flexible working environment. If you have the required skills and are eager to grow professionally, we look forward to your application.
