Principal Civil Engineer - Power - Project Leader

Manchester (Hybrid) | Other UK Locations Considered

£55,000 - £70,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits

We are working with a well-established engineering consultancy seeking a Principal Civil Engineer - Power to join their growing Power team.

This role is based in their Manchester office (or other UK offices) and involves a key delivery role on major infrastructure projects. The small but specialist team operates within the wider Civil & Structural group, focusing exclusively on the Power sector—such as substations, transition stations, and converter stations for high-voltage infrastructure across the UK and Europe.

You will lead civil and structural work on major schemes, overseeing site layouts, bunding, foundations, roads, drainage, and fencing. Projects are complex and multidisciplinary, requiring involvement in programme management, resource planning, and client liaison, alongside technical responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading and coordinating civil & structural elements of energy and infrastructure schemes
• Managing delivery, programme, resourcing, and quality control
• Acting as a technical contact and trusted advisor to clients
• Overseeing or reviewing designs for buildings, foundations, layouts, and site infrastructure
• Collaborating with internal project managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery

Candidate requirements:

• Strong civil/structural background with 10+ years' experience
• Preferably experienced in the Power sector (Grid, SSE, interconnectors, etc.)—experience in rail, highways, or wider infrastructure considered
• Comfortable managing project delivery aspects (cost, resourcing, programme)
• Chartered or close to achieving chartership—support available for completion
• HND, HNC, or degree in Civil Engineering
• Based within reach of a UK office, ideally Manchester, and able to attend the office at least once a week as part of hybrid working
