Job summary

Stantec in Taunton is seeking a Principal/Associate Civil Engineer to lead technical delivery on a range of infrastructure projects across the South West and beyond. You will mentor junior staff and work closely with buildings, environmental and transportation teams to deliver integrated solutions.

You will drive concept through to detailed design, ensuring quality, programme and budget adherence, while maintaining strong client relationships and stakeholder coordination.

Qualifications

• Experience designing highway and drainage infrastructure across all project stages.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure design principles and UK standards.
• Proven experience delivering multidisciplinary projects and working closely with clients.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management with utility, drainage and highway authorities.
• Experience leading projects and mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
• Strong organisational and project management skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Collaborative approach and passion for delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.
• Experience with Civil 3D, InfoDrainage and utility coordination software advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery and approval of civil infrastructure projects.
• Produce and review high-quality highway and drainage infrastructure designs.
• Deliver projects from concept and planning through to detailed design and construction support.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated infrastructure solutions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators and local authorities.
• Liaise with utility companies and highway authorities throughout project delivery.
• Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and technicians.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to high technical standards.
• Shape innovative, sustainable infrastructure delivering positive outcomes for communities.
