Job summary

AFRY’s Energy Division in the UK is seeking an experienced civil engineer to join the expanding Thermal and Renewable Energy team. You will lead civil engineering work from concept to detailed design, delivering drawings, specs and schedules while mentoring junior engineers.

You will provide technical guidance, perform feasibility reviews, FEED studies and EPCM support, ensuring health and safety, quality and project success across diverse energy projects in the UK.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in civil engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Detailed working knowledge of UK codes and standards (Eurocodes, British Standards).
  • Experience with CAD software such as Revit and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the civil engineering aspects of energy projects from concept to detailed design, delivering drawings, specs, estimates and schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance, review designs and help resolve project challenges.
  • Prepare clear reports and documentation, and support site activities through inspections and construction monitoring.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to health & safety, design, sustainability and commercial factors.
  • Represent the company professionally, support business development, and mentor junior engineers.

Job Description

The opportunity exists for an experienced civil engineer to join AFRY’s Energy Division within the expanding Thermal and Renewable Energy team in the UK.

You will provide clients with help and support at all project stages, including: technical and economic feasibility studies, technology assessments, technical due diligence reviews, Lenders’ Engineer services, front end engineering design (FEED) studies, owner’s engineer services, engineering-procurement-construction-management (EPCM) services, operation and maintenance support and optimisation and expert witness services.

YOUR TASKS:

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the civil engineering aspects of energy projects—from concept to detailed design—delivering drawings, specs, estimates, and schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance, review designs, and help resolve project challenges with practical, hands‑on expertise;
  • Prepare clear, accurate reports and documentation, and support site activities through inspections and construction monitoring;
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial factors;
  • Represent the company professionally, support business development, and mentor junior engineers.
Qualifications

YOUR PROFILE:

  • You hold a minimum 2:1 degree in civil engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status;
  • Detailed working knowledge of codes and standards used within the UK energy sector (Eurocodes and British Standards).

Experience of one or more of the following would be an advantage but not essential:

  • Condition and structural assessment of existing structures to determine suitability for reuse;
  • Experience in the scoping of and management of site surveys and investigations;
  • Previous experience of providing consulting services in a multi‑disciplinary engineering environment;
  • Experience of working with CAD software such as Revit and AutoCAD;
  • Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment.
