Job description
Overview

We are seeking a Principal/Chief Engineer to join our Bridges and Civils team within the Transportation Practice UK Wide. The successful candidate will support our team on a number of exciting, high-profile multi-disciplinary projects and frameworks in the local teams and the wider UK, including major highway & railway projects (e.g. NPR, TRU, A66, A57).


Responsibilities


  • Using your people, technical and delivery skills, deliver a variety of civil and structural design packages and projects for new highway and/or rail schemes, maintenance and assessment works. Manage individual design packages and entire projects, support project resourcing and financial control to ensure schemes are delivered profitably, to programme and in accordance with Atkins\' quality assurance systems.

  • Have a background in civil engineering design and experience of delivery of single and multi-disciplinary projects within railway, nuclear, highway or local authority environments. Be familiar with working on projects at varying stages of development from feasibility to detailed design.

Qualifications



  • Chartered status and membership of the ICE or IStructE.

  • Experience balancing industry experience, technical ability, communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience of working with key clients such as Highways, Network Rail, Local Authorities and/or major Contractors.

  • Ability to lead and support bids and tenders, with experience of work winning and developing client relationships.

  • Sufficient experience to undertake technical reviews of designs and understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Network Rail Standards, TfL Highway, Eurocodes; AASHTO experience would be beneficial).

  • Ability to develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables, delivering within set time.

  • Excellent project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control and ability to deliver across a range of contract types; ability to manage stakeholders, e.g. specialist suppliers, independent checkers and local authorities.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to converse with a wide range of Clients and colleagues across engineering disciplines.
