Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Principal Designer to deliver CDM and H&S consultancy from our London office. You will work with existing and new clients, developing systems to improve CDM and H&S efficiency and ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.

You will act as a trusted advisor, build strong client relationships, and manage commissions while upholding Turner & Townsend’s standards and profitability. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate required.
  • NEBOSH Diploma Level (or equivalent) preferred.
  • GradIOSH or equivalent required.
  • Membership of the Association for Project Safety (APS) preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence is required.
  • Experience as Principal Designer and working knowledge of CDM Regulations is essential.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential.
  • Ability to plan and organise workload to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive Construction Industry knowledge across multiple sectors is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver CDM and H&S consultancy services from our London office to existing and new clients.
  • Understand client needs and proactively identify solutions to challenges.
  • Develop existing systems and processes to improve CDM and H&S efficiency.
  • Advise as Principal Designer and help clients manage their legal responsibilities under CDM Regulations.
  • Establish positive relations with clients to gain confidence and act as a trusted advocate.
  • Represent Turner & Townsend professionally with clients, meetings, negotiations and correspondence.
  • Manage commissions to ensure client expectations and internal requirements are met.
  • Carry out H&S performance reviews and audits on behalf of the client.
  • Liaise with SHQ and Turner & Townsend colleagues to ensure team effectiveness and profitability.
  • Compile and create relevant pre-construction information and H&S files.

Job Description

To deliver CDM and H&S consultancy services from our London office to existing and new clients. The scope of services delivered by the role-holder are flexible, dependent upon the Client’s requirements, covering both CDM and H&S Management.

The key requirements of the role are to understand the Clients’ needs and proactively identify solutions to their challenges and ensure consistent delivery of service excellence in meeting their needs and expectations.

  • Understand and develop existing systems and processes to improve both CDM and H&S efficiency
  • Provide expert advice and where required, act as Principal Designer and help the client manage and understand their legal responsibilities, in accordance with CDM regulations
  • Establishing positive relations with existing and new Clients to gain confidence and become a trusted advocate
  • Representing Turner & Townsend in a professional and diligent manner including meeting, negotiating, and corresponding with Clients in a timely manner
  • Management of all commissions, where responsibility is assigned, to ensure both Client's expectations / scope of service and the requirements of Turner & Townsend’s business management system are effectively discharged
  • Carrying out H&S performance reviews, audits etc. on behalf of the Client
  • Liaise, proactively and professionally, with SHQ, and wider Turner & Townsend colleagues to contribute to team effectiveness; support others as needed and ensure consistency, quality and profitability of shared projects
  • Compiling and creating relevant pre-construction information and relevant H&S files
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Full UK driving licence
  • NEBOSH Diploma Level (or equivalent)
  • GradIOSH or equivalent
  • Membership of the APS
  • Experience as a Principal Designer
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and organise own workload to meet deadlines
  • Extensive knowledge and experience within the Construction Industry, specifically around the CDM Regulations
  • Experience of a diverse range of industry sectors desired, with a proven ability to meet Clients needs would be an advantage
