Job description

Purpose of Job

The Principal, Capability QA Lead is responsible for ensuring that quality is embedded throughout Modern Networks and Infrastructure (MNI). This role is part of the MNI Capability Leadership team, setting standards to achieve predictable outcomes and defect-free products used across IT and the wider Bank. The post-holder must be adaptable, able to work independently during quieter times, and lead others during busier periods, maintaining a strategic mindset.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that engineering standards remain effective within the capability, leading continuous quality improvements and maintaining standards and processes within the capability and the wider quality practice.
  2. Ensure best practice quality standards are followed through regular audits, reviews, peer reviews, problem management, root cause analysis, readiness reviews, and post-implementation reviews.
  3. Develop and implement testing policies, strategies, standards, and procedures by engaging with stakeholders.
  4. Create testing strategies for specific initiatives.
  5. Review and approve test plans and test cases, ensuring they meet standards.
  6. Manage product risks and resolve problems in line with stakeholder quality expectations.
  7. Manage the operational budget for capability QA through effective resource management and sourcing strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Broad IT infrastructure experience including hardware (compute, storage, network), virtualization, software-defined networking and storage, public cloud, and containerization.
  • Understanding of IT operations in an ITSM context, ideally ITIL foundation-level qualified.
  • Knowledge of software development principles and SDLC tooling.
  • Experience leading engineers in test tooling and automation.
  • Strong communication skills in English, with an understanding of documentation importance.

Desirable

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO).
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience supporting ADO pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools like HashiCorp Terraform.

Certifications and Qualifications

  • ISTQB foundation testing certification or equivalent.
  • ISTQB Test Manager Certification or equivalent.
  • ITIL Foundation (V3 or above) Certification or equivalent.
  • Agile test management or Scrum Master Certification is desirable but not essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
