Role Overview

As a Principal CAD/BIM Technician, you will be part of the team working with project delivery teams to develop BIM models for the Structures discipline. You will interface with BIM leads in other disciplines to create federated models and undertake clash detection. Collaborating with Regional leads, Project Directors, and Project Managers, you will contribute to developing a coherent design process that maximizes data exchange across multiple software platforms.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide 3D modelling expertise to multidisciplinary projects in the Building Structures sector.
  2. Act as project lead on multi-disciplinary jobs and liaise with counterparts in other disciplines.
  3. Mentor and guide junior team members.
  4. Manage, monitor, and review work undertaken by external resources.
  5. Support the development of BIM within the business, ensuring compliance with current BIM Level 2 documentation.
  6. Assist in developing skills and capabilities of design teams for BIM-compliant project delivery.
  7. Upskill colleagues and external partners in BIM knowledge as required.
  8. Develop and cross-check model information against Employer Information Requirements (EIR), including clash detection and validation of non-graphical data.
  9. Interface with multidisciplinary teams and promote BIM benefits at the project level.
  10. Monitor and advise on clash detection issues.
  11. Produce high-quality models and drawings in 2D and 3D.
  12. Maintain knowledge of health and safety standards.
Candidate Profile

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • CAD experience in both 2D and 3D environments.
  • Proficiency in software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks; knowledge of Aecosim, Projectwise, and BIM360 is a plus.
  • Ability to manage data securely and effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships.
  • Experience operating in a BIM Level 2 compliant environment.
  • Willingness to learn new software and processes.
  • Ability to coordinate teams and manage workload.

Educational requirements include at least HNC/D level in engineering or a relevant field, with a clear understanding of BIM and its industry benefits. Knowledge of building construction, Eurocodes, and standards like BS1192, PAS1192, ISO19650 is essential. Ability to sign confidentiality agreements and security clearance is required. An adaptable and collaborative attitude is preferred.
