Senior Structural Engineer – Principal Bridges & Structures Engineer
Location: Croydon, UK – Flexible hybrid working between office and home.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in implementing health & safety and wellbeing best practice in all works.
- Act as a technical lead for delivery projects, leading, line‑managing and developing a team of Engineers and Technicians.
- Serve as Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) to trainees working towards chartership and support graduates within the team.
- Secure and deliver works to new and existing clients.
- Project‑manage schemes, including client reporting, programming, resource planning and commercial management.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; MSc level or equivalent preferred.
- Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.
- Minimum two days per week commitment to work in the Croydon office.
- Proven assessment, design and project‑management experience, especially in bridge engineering.
- Strong technical skills in bridge engineering, with a ‘right‑first‑time’ approach.
- Good working knowledge of structural Eurocodes, National Highways (DMRB & MCHW) and Network Rail standards.
- Experience with structural analysis software – Lusas, MIDAS, Sofistik or SBD preferred.
- Experience producing calculations, drawings, risk assessments, specifications and reporting, and interdisciplinary review on multi‑discipline projects.
- Sound knowledge of engineering processes for investigations, assessments, refurbishment and design of transport structures including bridges.
- Experience managing specialist subcontractors and on‑site execution in a safe, productive manner.
- Capacity to lead small‑medium teams, ensuring high‑quality reports and drawings within budget and schedule constraints.
- Effective client engagement, ability to meet with senior advisory/contracting teams and make decisions.
