Job description

Job Title: Principal Bridge Engineer

Working within the Cheshire West and Chester Structures Team, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise to deliver services specific to Highway Structures maintenance and asset management. The role will manage the programme of Principal Inspections, Scour Assessments, and Structural Reviews. The successful candidate will respond to Highway Structures queries and assist in the management and delivery of Term Maintenance Highway Structures works.

As a vital member of the team, you will work as part of a professional, responsive, and dedicated team undertaking a wide range of tasks. The role will require the use of your knowledge, judgment, and initiative, whilst being supported by the wider team.

Responsibilities:

1. Carry out designs, inspections, analyze engineering problems, apply technical expertise and engineering judgment, and produce innovative solutions using complex interactive computer systems (AutoCAD).
2. Manage works and activities on the public highway, including liaising with and supervising contractors during the maintenance of highway structures as part of the highway network.
3. Deal with correspondence and telephone enquiries, and consult with statutory undertakers, District and Parish councils, and other services and units of the council.
4. Assist the Team Leader for Highway Structures in monitoring and maximizing budgets to ensure cost-effective and efficient management of the work programme. Plan and manage scheme delivery, proactively monitor progress, resolve issues, and initiate corrective actions.
5. Contribute to the development of the service area through the management and training of staff, including the identification, planning, and allocation of tasks, and support in staff development.
