We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Biomedical Engineer to join our EBME team, working 100% on site across The London Clinic estate in central London (W1G 6BW). We are offering a competitive inclusive salary (Band 7 Equivalent).

Job Profile:

The post-holder will be responsible for supporting the Medical Devices Manager in the management of medical devices/equipment at The London Clinic. Their remit will include preventative maintenance, calibration, and repair functions related to a range of The Clinic's medical equipment. Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders will be key to this role, alongside working with external contractors and suppliers. On occasions, this role may deputise in the absence of the Medical Devices Manager.

  • Job Type: Permanent, Full Time.
  • Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, with working patterns as agreed.
  • Job Location: This role will work across The London Clinic estate, and will be 100% on site.
  • Salary: Competitive inclusive salary (Band 7 Equivalent).

Key Duties:

  • Provide expert level technical support, maintenance, and repair for a wide range of high-risk medical equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Review and carry out repairs as necessary on damaged equipment returned from wards and departments, applying suitable fault-finding techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of manufacturer's supplied information. Performing calibrations and verification's to ensure equipment is safe to return to clinical use.
  • Exercising judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple complex and inter-related systems, which may be due to user error, equipment failure or environmental issues. Communicating with clinical users and the clinical education team to gain a clear understanding of the nature of the problems that arise with equipment.
  • Prioritising own work in response to changing clinical pressures, and acting independently within clearly defined guidelines consistent with best professional practice, to be able to accommodate last minute demands of the organisation.
  • Manage and mentor a team of Biomedical Engineers (Band 5/6 equivalent), providing technical training and guidance to engineering staff as required, and ensuring that Biomedical Engineers are actively working in-line with The London Clinic Values and Behaviours.

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree level qualification in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering.
  • Previous experience working within a clinical engineering environment (NHS or private hospital), with strong troubleshooting and repair skills for a variety of medical equipment.
  • Experience of repair/maintenance of: GE continuous patient monitoring; GE vital signs monitors; B.Braun Perfusor and Infusomat; Medtronic Diathermies; Smiths CADD Solis pumps; BD PK pumps; Welch Allyn CVSM; Cardial Health "Kendall" DVT pumps; Philips IntelliVue MX Monitor Range; Ultramedic Test Equipment.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to absorb new information quickly, retain it, and apply it.
  • Ability to persuade and make recommendations to senior managers based on professional judgement and expertise.
  • Working experience with Medusa (Equipment Database).
