Job description

Today, Assystem is among the top three independent nuclear engineering firms worldwide. With over 60 years of experience in highly regulated sectors, the group supports public and industrial stakeholders in the execution of complex and strategic infrastructure projects, subject to high safety and security requirements.

Assystem mobilizes 8,000 experts in 13 countries and intervenes across the entire project lifecycle, in engineering, project management and digital solutions.

Principal BIM Manager

The role holder will oversee and support Company-wide delivery (across multi-disciplines) and play a lead role in developing BIM Capability for the UK organisation to meet the needs of a wide range of marquee customers.

While the Principal of BIM does not undertake direct design responsibilities, a strong foundational understanding of design and modelling processes is essential to effectively support and guide delivery teams.

Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and data management workflows is highly beneficial, as the role includes supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Common Data Environment (CDE).

Responsibilities

The role-holder may undertake a range of BIM leadership roles, including leading projects on behalf of customers or delivering in response to customer requirements.

Duties will include:

  • Foster a collaborative working culture by liaising and coordinating effectively with project team members and stakeholders.
  • Manage and oversee federated 3D models to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment across all disciplines.
  • Attend project and design team meetings as required, providing input on information management and model coordination.
  • Coordinate and review 3D models for clashes, leading clash detection processes and producing clear, actionable reports.
  • Establish and manage the Common Data Environment (CDE), including defining processes and procedures to enable reliable and secure information exchange between project stakeholders.
  • Define, agree, and implement the information structure for the Project Information Model (PIM), ensuring alignment with project and client requirements.
  • Receive and validate information from multiple sources, ensuring compliance with the Exchange Information Requirements (EIR) and BIM Execution Plan (BEP), and advise on any non-conformance.
  • Establish and maintain robust record-keeping, archiving, and audit trail processes for the PIM.
  • Support the development and implementation of Project Information Plans (PIP) and Asset Information Plans (AIP).
  • Apply a rigorous approach to ensure that safety standards and project targets are consistently met and maintained.
  • Support legal and commercial teams in bid preparation, ensuring appropriate BIM and 3D model requirements and obligations are clearly defined.
  • Maximise the value of data exchange by enabling efficient workflows, early clash detection, and the timely availability of accurate, up-to-date information.
Key Experience
  • Expertise in ISO 19650 and associated standards.
  • Expertise in Common Data Environment (CDE) implementation and administration using ProjectWise.
  • Expertise in multi-dimensional design tools, including Autodesk Revit, Inventor, Navisworks, Solibri, and DiRoots.
  • Strong experience in Design Management.
  • Experience in Design Reporting and communicating project performance effectively.
  • Excellent report writing capability with clear and structured documentation.
  • Proven ability to deliver results on time, to a high quality, and within budget.
  • Ability to rapidly gain understanding of the technical, behavioural, and contextual aspects of complex projects.
  • Strong awareness of personal data and project data security requirements across both the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) environments, including classifications, vetting levels, SAL processes, and typical restrictions.
  • Understanding of Export Control requirements and when they apply.
  • Knowledge of UK Government Security Classifications.
  • Awareness of UK GDPR legislative requirements, with a focus on practical compliance rather than specialist expertise.
  • Understanding of contractual obligations relating to data retention and information governance.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Academic qualifications of HNC/HND (or higher) in an engineering discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience within a relevant discipline.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries, including Nuclear, Energy, Water, Transportation, or Infrastructure sectors.
  • Substantial knowledge of building infrastructure assets.
  • Proficiency in Information Management (IM) standards, including COBie, IFC, and associated documentation.
