Job Title: Principal Battery Test Engineer – Cell Testing

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Battery Test Engineer to lead the design, execution, and development of cell-level battery testing programmes. This hands-on role will involve setting up and delivering both mechanical and electrical testing processes, supporting R&D and product development activities within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in advancing next-generation battery technologies, working within a collaborative team at the forefront of energy storage innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of cell-level battery testing protocols.
  • Design and set up bespoke test rigs and procedures for electrical and mechanical testing.
  • Support prototype and product development by generating meaningful test data and analysis.
  • Define test plans, safety processes, and validation procedures for new technologies.
  • Ensure accurate data capture, reporting, and root-cause analysis of performance issues.
  • Liaise with cross-functional engineering teams to feed back results into design and development.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the ongoing improvement of laboratory capabilities.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience in cell-level battery testing, ideally in both R&D and product validation contexts.
  • Strong understanding of both electrical and mechanical test methods and instrumentation.
  • Proven experience setting up and maintaining battery test equipment and safety systems.
  • Familiarity with test data analysis tools and reporting best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK – visa sponsorship is not available.
