Job summary

Noble Panacea in the United Kingdom seeks a Principal Backend (or Full-Stack) Engineer to lead the architecture and evolution of the backend and API platforms powering our ecommerce, loyalty, and clienteling experiences. You will design scalable services with Node.js and TypeScript, integrate with CRM and data systems, and set standards for observability, security, and performance as we scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience with ownership of complex systems.
• Proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, REST/GraphQL APIs, and distributed systems patterns.
• Experience integrating ecommerce or digital experience platforms (loyalty, merchandising, A/B testing).
• Able to design, deploy, and operate microservices architectures.
• Hands-on AWS or GCP experience including serverless, containers, pub/sub, and managed compute services.
• Familiarity with data integration, event-driven architectures, and streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Strong authentication, security, scalability, caching, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tooling, Terraform or IaC, and Docker.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend and API architecture for ecommerce, loyalty, and clienteling platforms.
• Design, build and evolve backend services using Node.js and TypeScript with a focus on maintainability and performance.
• Lead integrations with global commerce partners, payment processors, and logistics networks.
• Architect and maintain scalable APIs and middleware connecting CMS, DAM, analytics, and other systems.
• Develop API governance, authentication, authorization, and rate-limiting for Customer 360.
• Define observability standards using logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting across tools like New Relic, Datadog, CloudWatch.
• Collaborate with frontend, product and data teams to deliver secure, end-to-end user experiences.
• Drive DevOps and automation to improve CI/CD, deployment workflows, and cloud consistency.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices and long-term technical roadmap.
