Job summary

SchemeServe Ltd. is seeking an exceptional Principal Backend Engineer to elevate backend engineering across our cloud-based platform. This role is UK-based remote, working with engineers to solve difficult problems, guide architectural decisions and maintain high standards.

You’ll lead with influence, shape technical direction and mentor teams while delivering a secure, scalable and maintainable system that powers insurance software for MGAs, brokers and insurers.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in modern backend engineering and strong C#/ .NET experience.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, distributed systems and API design.
• Experience with mature legacy apps and modern service-oriented architectures.
• Cloud architecture experience, ideally Azure.
• Excellent understanding of databases, security, testing, maintainability and delivery.
• Experience shaping engineering principles across teams.
• Proven ability to mentor and raise others’ skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape backend engineering strategy, architecture and technical direction.
• Guide engineers to make better technical and architectural decisions.
• Develop engineering principles and guardrails without over-ruling judgement.
• Evolve monolith and service-based platform responsibly.
• Coach and mentor engineers to improve technical skills and judgement.
• Review designs and challenge unnecessary complexity.
• Champion security, quality, testing, observability, resilience and performance.
