The Role: Principal AWS Solutions Architect

As a Principal Cloud Solutions Architect, you’ll be part of a highly skilled team supporting customers on their journey to rehost, replatform, and refactor mission-critical systems into Amazon Web Services (AWS). You’ll bring deep cloud knowledge and technical leadership to projects that demand agility, precision, and innovation.

From hands-on architecture and documentation to mentoring, knowledge sharing, and technical direction, your expertise will have both immediate and long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the definition of customer requirements (functional and non-functional), working alongside senior stakeholders and engineers
  • Design and document scalable, secure systems through High- and Low-Level Designs and Operational Concepts
  • Implement large-scale technical solutions and ensure robust testing and documentation are completed
  • Mentor junior engineers on tools and best practices
  • Set technical standards and lead on quality assurance across your project
  • Work with Project Managers and stakeholders to prioritise deliverables and manage time, cost, and scope effectively (DevFinOps)
  • Produce high-quality user-centric documentation such as Concept of Operations (CONOPS), SyOPs, Support and User Guides
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues and defects

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong background in IT systems design, deployment, and administration
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical or team-based roles
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (or equivalent level)
  • Experience designing, deploying, and managing solutions on AWS
  • Deep knowledge of Linux or Windows OS administration in enterprise environments
  • Skilled in IPv4 networking, including design, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform
  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes for virtualised or containerised systems
  • Familiarity with high-security or complex operational environments

Desirable Skills

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines in a DevOps context
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows and agile release practices
  • Understanding of secure network architecture and configuration of routers/firewalls
  • Use of configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet
  • Comfortable working with agile tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence) and frameworks (e.g. Scrum, SAFe)
  • Knowledge of ITIL service management principles
