Job summary

BRUSH Group, via Eta Projects Ltd, is seeking an Authorising Engineer to lead technical compliance audits and appoint authorised persons across NHS and MOD systems. The role combines remote working with site visits in the UK.

You will provide guidance on HTM 06-02/06-03, JSP 375, and risk assessments, ensuring safety and regulatory standards are met while supporting healthcare estates projects.

Qualifications

  • Chartered or incorporated engineer with practical experience in NHS and/or MOD systems.
  • Proven track record as Authorising Engineer or Senior Authorised Person.
  • Strong knowledge of HTM 06-02/06-03 and JSP 375 Vol 3.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to incident investigations and resolve technical issues.
  • Audit, close non-conformances and manage Technical Compliance Audits.
  • Lead and assess Authorised Persons; appoint and train as needed.
  • Provide guidance on Safe System of Work and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform risk assessments and propose control actions.
  • Support senior management with assurance across client sites.

What's the role?

Eta Projects Ltd. provide Authorising Services to a range of clients across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Founded in 1995 primarily as an M&E Design Consultancy, Eta Projects Ltd has developed its Authorising Services ergonomically as the company has grown and now offers M&E Authorising Engineering services to a wide range of clients within the NHS and other industry sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing timely and accurate input to incident investigations and resolving technical operational issues.
  • Audit, process and findings of the Technical Compliance Audits – assist with the closure of non-conformances.
  • Managing and offering guidance of Electrical Equipment Safety Alerts.
  • Issuing audit findings via a technical audit report to Designated Person/Principal Engineer agreeing a suitable site AP Action Plan.
  • Maintaining a register of all Authorised Persons including their training records and areas of responsibility.
  • To act as Technical Lead offering advice and guidance on a range of complex electrical projects and systems.
  • Undertaking technical compliance audits, reporting on areas of non-compliance.
  • Identify, develop, assess and recommend for appointment suitable candidates for Appointment as Authorised Person.
  • Assessing the experience, training and competence of Authorised Persons; providing recommendations of appointment.
  • Providing technical and engineering support to ensure all Authorised Persons are competent to carry out their function to ensure compliance and succession planning.
  • Implementation, Administration, Auditing and Monitoring of Safe systems of Work associated with Statutory Electrical Regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc Act (1974), the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and HTM 06-02 and HTM 06-03.
  • Undertake investigations with respect near misses and accidents, consulting with enforcing authorities where required in the role of an Authorising Engineer.
  • Function as the focal point to the Senior Management internally within the business and externally within Client Teams in all matters relating to the Safe System of Work.
  • Provide the necessary assurances that the relevant SSoW is being appropriately implemented at site level through the AE Audits undertaken and the Assessment of Competence of the Authorised Persons.
Working Conditions

37.5 hours per week , Monday - Friday. This is a remote working role. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on client sites, supporting healthcare estates, alongside home-based working. While the role is remote, there will be occasional visits to our London HQ as required for collaboration and business needs.

What we're looking for
  • A chartered or an incorporated engineer with practical and relevant technical engineering experience of working within NHS and/or MOD systems is essential
  • Full UK driving licence is essential
  • Detailed knowledge and Understanding of HTM 06/02 and HTM 06/03 and or JSP 375 Vol 3.
  • Recent experience working as an Authorised Engineer or extensive experience working as a Senior Authorised Person.
  • Technical background with respect to relevant disciplines for appointment as an Authorising Engineer to include High Voltage and Low Voltage systems
  • Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of UK Health and Safety Legislation and an ability to carry out risk assessments and propose actions for risk control/management.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare support systems.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Completed an approved Authorising Engineer training course within the last three years or within six months of a first-time nomination is desirable
