Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Bexleyto assist with the appointment of a Principal Auditor, on a 1-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £31.47 - £42.16 per hour

Summary:

The Principal Auditor plays a key role in supporting the Head of Assurance to deliver the Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Plans. The post holder will manage a diverse portfolio of audit and assurance work, including internal audits, proactive fraud investigations, contract and project reviews, and governance improvement. The role contributes directly to strengthening the Councils control environment, ensuring transparency, accountability, and value for money.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Assurance in providing assurance on the Councils risk management, internal control, and governance frameworks.
  • Plan and scope audit assignments, including preparing draft terms of reference.
  • Carry out fieldwork, testing, and analysis in line with audit plans and internal standards.
  • Work with service managers to assess risks and evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Establish and maintain two-way communication with auditees throughout assignments.
Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of audit methodology, risk management, and governance frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in producing audit reports.
  • Competency in using audit tools, data analysis software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
