We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact.

Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, especially in the Design and Build Sector.

As part of our Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life. Your expertise might involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise. Our projects are located in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

We work to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. Addressing challenges like climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss, we aim to mitigate large-scale events such as floods and wildfires.

You will work on diverse projects, including energy, infrastructure, rail, highways, water, and mixed-use developments for both private and public clients, along with masterplanning and small-scale projects requiring agility. We promote technical excellence, digital innovation, and a collaborative environment.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Leading coordination and delivery of environmental work within multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development, and achieving optimal outcomes.
  • Driving business development, creating project opportunities, and expanding our portfolio in the D&B sector.
  • Raising awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building contacts.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders, fostering relationships, and creating cross-selling opportunities.
  • Managing projects, overseeing technical, quality, commercial, and health & safety performance.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across Arcadis globally.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental and consenting processes, including EIA practices, case law, and sustainability principles.
  • Experience working with contractors and influencing sustainable design.
  • Experience across various project types.
  • Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills, with experience reviewing others' work.
  • Leadership in multidisciplinary project coordination, with project management skills.
  • Experience negotiating with authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Commercial skills, including forecasting and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
  • A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach.
