Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, particularly in the Design and Build Sector.

As part of our Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life. Your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, especially in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

We work to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations. Facing challenges like climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss, we aim to safeguard natural resources while supporting development.

You will work on diverse projects including energy, infrastructure, rail, highways, water, and mixed-use developments for both private and public clients, as well as public realm and masterplanning projects. We promote technical excellence, flexibility, and digital innovation, ensuring successful delivery across the UK and worldwide.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Leading coordination and delivery of planning/environmental work by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development for optimal environmental and planning outcomes, with a strong understanding of the D&B process.
  • Business development, creating project opportunities, and leading project delivery to expand our portfolio in the D&B Sector, collaborating with upstream Environmental and Planning teams.
  • Raising awareness of our services, winning new opportunities, and building contacts.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders, creating cross-selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Managing projects, overseeing technical, quality, commercial, and health & safety performance.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across Arcadis globally.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental and consenting processes, including EIA practices, case law, and sustainability principles.
  • Experience working with contractors and influencing sustainability through design.
  • Experience across various project types.
  • Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills, with experience reviewing others' work.
  • Leadership in multidisciplinary project coordination, project management, and technical expertise.
  • Experience negotiating with authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Commercial skills, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
  • A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach.
