Job Description:

Binnies geotechnical team continues to grow, due to continued successes in tendering. As we enter the next water regulatory period (AMP8) we will be providing geotechnical input for the vast majority of UK water companies, building critical infrastructure with a particular focus on storm spill reduction. We are also supporting water companies as they develop their designs of the new generation of reservoirs to safeguard drinking water supplies for the future.

This is alongside our other frameworks including supporting the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and the Canals and River Trust.

As part of this growth we are also offering our clients more advanced geotechnical services and taking on more complex designs, including temporary works. This gives all our staff an exciting opportunity to learn new skills, and be involved in the new direction and expansion of our services. As many schemes are design and build, it also allows us to see our designs bought to life and actually constructed.

As a principal engineer/Associate Director you will be responsible for mentoring junior staff, leading on work packages and reviewing the work of junior staff.

About the Role:

  • Reviewing the work of junior staff
  • Design a diverse range of geotechnical engineering solutions
  • Provide technical oversight on projects
  • Lead geotechnical work packages and teams,
  • Manage and lead part of the geotechnical team
  • Site visits

You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

  • The role is suitable for candidates with a Masters degree – Civil engineering or geotechnical engineering are preferred.
  • You must be chartered (ideally with the ICE or IoM)
  • As short term site visits are a key part of the role, a full UK driving license is required

You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

  • Ability to work remotely
  • Experience of working at a senior level
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams of internal professionals, and third-party asset owners, stakeholders, technical officers and contractors
  • Proactive and methodical approach to problem solving as an individual and as part of a team with a desire to find a solution
  • Demonstrable success in designing, planning and organising tasks
  • A passion for engineering

Would you like to work in a business where you feel empowered to grow? Where there is no place for criticism or discrimination? A place where people are mindful and respectful? If so, then Binnies is the place for you.

We have a strong ‘ENGAGED’ culture that runs through everything we do. Evolved over 100 years, we have a culture of caring, where our employees’ wellbeing and work-life balance are priorities, in fact we have industry leading flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We pride ourselves on providing an inclusive working environment, where a diverse workforce is supported to grow and develop.

The successful applicant will go from being great to truly amazing with Binnies.
