The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. In the UK, we have secured new AMP8 consultancy frameworks, including Southern Water Professional Services Framework, reinforcing our technical teams.

We seek a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer with experience in water supply, wastewater, water resources, dams, and river engineering to strengthen our teams in the south and south-east. This is a fantastic opportunity for driven individuals to work on a wide range of water-related projects in the UK and globally. As part of our team, you will:

  • Lead the design of major water supply infrastructure to ensure sustainable water security,
  • Contribute to innovative sewer solutions to reduce wastewater spills,
  • Develop climate-resilient flood protections, safeguarding habitats including chalk streams,
  • Deliver cutting-edge water treatment plants to improve water quality.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for project delivery, coordinating teams for excellent technical output within budget and schedule.
  • Produce and review calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports, proactively managing design risks.
  • Represent the company in meetings, building client relationships that enhance our reputation and secure further work.
  • Deliver projects in partnership with clients and contractors.
  • Contribute to technical and commercial success through forecasting, risk management, and bid/proposal development.
  • Work to Mott MacDonald’s standards, reviewing health, safety, welfare, and environmental impacts.

Candidate specification

  • We seek a driven individual with a strong technical background in water, eager to contribute to projects that improve society.
  • Required skills and experience:
  • Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognized Professional Institution.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects, ensuring quality standards, and supporting less experienced staff.
  • Technical experience in design and managing design teams.
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good understanding of CDM responsibilities.

Desirable:

  • Willingness to travel to offices and sites.
  • Experience in building teams and mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience in bid preparation and client engagement.
