Elastic is hiring a Principal AI Engineer for the Context Engine team to own the end-to-end improvement loop of our AI agents and memory systems. You will design evaluations, telemetry, and safe rollout strategies, collaborating with data scientists, backend engineers, and product teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, shipping and operating AI-driven products on production traffic.
• Experience diagnosing agent or LLM behaviour from traces and user feedback, designing evaluation and shipping fixes.
• Direct experience building agents with state and memory, iterating prompts, skills and tool behaviour in production.
• Familiarity with MCP, exposing public MCP servers and tools.
• Experience designing telemetry for AI systems for engineering and product decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own the production improvement loop for Context Engine: understand extraction automations, retrieval tools and memory in production; fix failure modes and prove fixes.
• Define iteration methods on agents and skills with safe versioning, rollout, and guardrails.
• Design telemetry to support data-informed decisions: captures from traces, tool calls, knowledge retrieval; feed dashboards and evaluations.
• Partner with data science for evaluation strategy: golden datasets, evaluators, latency and cost considerations.
• Raise the bar: review designs, mentor engineers, and draft technical roadmaps.
