Job summary

Cambridge Consultants is seeking a Principal Engineer in AI & Algorithms to lead the algorithmic work on defence and security projects, combining hands-on engineering with client engagement. You will mentor engineers, shape technical strategy, and drive proposals while maintaining security clearance requirements and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

The role offers hybrid working with some office presence, and opportunities to influence project direction and technical standards

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing and delivering cutting edge algorithms for intelligent systems, including defence or security projects.
• Strong Python and software engineering judgement.
• Undergraduate degree in AI/machine learning, computer science, mathematics or physics. PhD welcome but not required; deep industrial expertise matters.

Responsibilities

• Lead the algorithmic work on multidisciplinary projects, acting as technical lead and architect.
• Contribute to proposals and costed work programmes, turning client problems into deliverable work.
• Mentor engineers, conduct technical interviews, and help recruit and raise the technical standards.
