Team Name: Employee Relations

The People and Culture (P&C) team works to create a workplace embodying organizational values, enabling societal impact. It includes HR Advisory, Centre of Expertise, Projects, Systems & Analytics, and Employee Support Centre. Employee and Labour Relations is part of the Centre of Expertise.

The Principal Advocate is part of the Employee and Labour Relations Team, responsible for supporting employee and labour relations issues, developing strategies, risk mitigation, and managing grievance processes to promote collaboration, inclusivity, and legal compliance. The team partners with managers and employees to foster constructive relationships and ensure governance.

As Principal Advocate, your responsibilities include:

  • Applying your legal expertise to manage grievances and complaints effectively.
  • Managing grievance and complaint operations with support from a colleague specializing in investigations.
  • Developing representation and advocacy strategies in collaboration with managers and the Legal Department to ensure legal compliance and a healthy workplace culture.
  • Maintaining systems for recording and analyzing complaints and grievances to inform training and policy development.
  • Providing coaching, training, and policy development support to managers and staff.
  • Promoting early intervention and mediation to resolve workplace issues, providing advice and coaching.
  • Handling complex cases related to grievances, performance issues, and labour disputes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in employee and labour relations, preferably across diverse settings.
  • Deep knowledge of labour law and practice in relevant OSF jurisdictions, especially concerning grievances and complaints.
  • Strong communication skills for internal and external interactions, including interviews and negotiations.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills in ambiguous situations.
  • Professional demeanor under challenging circumstances.
  • Strong advocacy, persuasion, and project management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning in diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and social justice.
  • Respectful, humble approach to working with diverse perspectives.

Desirable (not required):

  • Experience in other HR disciplines.

The salary range in the US is $120,900 - $229,700, influenced by skills and experience.
