Head of Local Authority Recruitment | Executive Search | Expert in Hiring for Senior Leadership Teams

Role Purpose

• To support the Chief Accountant and Deputy Chief Accountant in maintaining the integrity of the Council’s accounts and producing the Statement of Accounts each year.

Responsibilities

• The Principal Accountant has a high degree of responsibility and autonomy for how they approach the workload in their areas: including the design and preparation of working papers and managing audit queries within their areas.
• The Principal Accountant works closely with the Chief Accountant and Deputy Chief Accountant to ensure that the Council’s financial reporting processes, procedures and policies are pragmatic, fit for purpose, up to date with best practice, and deliver maximum value to the Council.
• Prepare tax documents.
• Compile and analyse financial statements.
• Manage budgeting and forecasting.

Requirements

• You will be a technical expert who enjoys, and has a flair for, financial accounting.
• You will be a natural problem solver, with excellent Excel skills, and a desire to constantly strive for improvements in all areas of work.
• This role involves line managing and supervising other members of the Chief Accountant’s Team, so we are also looking for an individual who enjoys team building and helping more junior staff achieve their goals and develop their skills.
• Prospective applicants should be CCAB qualified.
• Must have previous local authority or public sector experience.
