Job description

Location: Mainstream Primary School, Wembley Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm (4:30pm finish on Tuesdays) Start Date: September 2025 Contract Type: Long-term placement Are you passionate about supporting children to thrive both academically and personally? We’re recruiting on behalf of a welcoming, inclusive primary school in Wembley that’s looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a pupil with Autism and speech and language challenges. This full-time role starts in September 2025 and offers the chance to make a lasting difference in a child’s learning journey. What you’ll be doing: • Working closely with the pupil throughout the school day to support learning, communication and social interaction. • Adapting lesson activities to match the child’s individual needs and interests. • Supporting the development of speech, language and emotional regulation, in partnership with teachers and external specialists. • Encouraging independence, resilience and participation in classroom life. • Providing detailed feedback to teachers and parents on daily progress and areas for development. • Assisting with transitions between activities and supporting during playtimes and lunchtimes. • Helping to create visual supports, resources and structured routines. • Delivering personal care discreetly and respectfully when required. • Contributing to regular review meetings and the child’s individual education plan (IEP). What we’re looking for: • A Level 3 (or higher) UK qualification in any subject area. • Minimum of six months’ experience working within a UK primary school setting. • Solid understanding of supporting children with ASD and speech and language difficulties. • Confident working flexibly across different age groups within the primary phase. • Excellent spoken and written English, able to communicate clearly with pupils, staff and families. • Calm, patient and empathetic approach, with a proactive mindset. • Comfortable delivering personal care when needed. Desirable skills and experience: • Familiarity with alternative and augmentative communication (e.g., PECS, Makaton). • Additional training in areas such as ASD awareness, positive behaviour strategies or sensory integration. • Experience supporting pupils during unstructured times like playtime or trips.
