Hours: 35 per week

Kaimes is a special school located in the south-east of Edinburgh, catering to pupils with Autism and other complex needs. We serve a diverse group of students from P7 to S6, achieving from Early to 4th Level and beyond.

We seek an enthusiastic and compassionate teacher to join us on a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This role offers the opportunity to work in a small group setting, delivering individualized learning experiences supported by favorable pupil-to-teacher ratios and highly skilled support staff.

Our primary “base-class” structure involves teaching maths, literacy, health & wellbeing, and other curriculum areas. The ideal candidate will possess excellent, creative teaching skills to facilitate access to learning for our pupils, along with the ability to provide high-quality, holistic pastoral care.

The role primarily involves teaching your base class, but may also include instructing other groups, such as cooking and practical life skills, in small group settings. The specific focus of these activities can be flexible, depending on your skills and experience.

Experience working with young people with ASN needs or a thorough understanding of autism is essential. Familiarity with the SCERTS framework and a commitment to obtaining an up-to-date food hygiene certificate would be advantageous.

Salaries will be aligned with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This position is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo an update check. Candidates who have spent three or more months outside the UK in the last five years will need an Overseas Criminal Record Check. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of these checks.

We are committed to fostering a workplace where all staff feel valued, included, and empowered to perform their best. We recognize the benefits of a diverse workforce that brings different values, beliefs, experiences, and backgrounds.

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
