Job description

Bright Star Talent is looking for confident and adaptable Primary Supply Teachers to support our partner schools across Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding areas.

If you enjoy teaching but want more control over your working week, day-to-day supply could be a great fit. Whether you're looking for regular work throughout the week, a couple of days alongside other commitments, or simply want to experience different schools before deciding on your next long-term role, we can work around your availability.

We're looking for teachers across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 who can walk into a classroom, quickly build a rapport with pupils and provide a positive and consistent day of learning.

What does day-to-day supply involve?

No two days are necessarily the same. You could be covering planned absence, sickness, training days or last-minute requirements across our local primary schools.

Your responsibilities will typically include:

  • Delivering lessons and activities provided by the school.
  • Ensuring pupils continue learning effectively in their usual teacher's absence.
  • Managing classroom behaviour positively and confidently.
  • Following the school's routines, policies and expectations.
  • Supporting pupils across different abilities and additional needs.
  • Working alongside Teaching Assistants and other members of school staff.
  • Providing brief feedback to the school at the end of the day.
  • Maintaining a safe, positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Following all safeguarding procedures throughout the school day.

For most day-to-day bookings, planning will already be provided, meaning you can focus on what you do best: teaching and engaging pupils.

Why choose day-to-day supply?

Supply teaching can give you the flexibility to make work fit around your life rather than the other way around.

You can tell us which days you're available, how far you're happy to travel and which year groups you prefer, and we'll use this when offering you work.

It's ideal for teachers who:
  • Want flexibility without leaving education.
  • Prefer variety rather than being based in the same classroom every day.
  • Are returning to teaching and want to rebuild confidence.
  • Want to get to know local schools before considering a permanent position.
  • Have other commitments and need control over their working days.
  • Simply enjoy supply teaching and meeting different pupils and school teams.
What we're looking for

To work as a Primary Supply Teacher with Bright Star Talent, you should

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have experience teaching within a UK primary school.
  • Be confident covering classes across EYFS, KS1 and/or KS2.
  • Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Be adaptable and comfortable working within different school environments.
  • Be reliable, punctual and professional.
  • Have a genuine commitment to safeguarding and supporting children.

ECTs are also welcome to register for suitable opportunities.

Working with Bright Star Talent

We don't believe supply teachers should feel like a name on a booking sheet.

Our team takes the time to understand you, your availability and the schools you actually want to work in. We'll never expect you to accept every booking offered to you.

We work with schools across Birmingham and the surrounding areas and are continuing to grow our network of local primary schools.

Whether you want one day a week or regular supply throughout the week, we'd be happy to hear from you.

Safeguarding & Compliance

Bright Star Talent is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Every teacher representing Bright Star Talent must complete our full safeguarding and compliance process before being cleared for work.

This includes:

  • An appropriate Enhanced DBS check, including the Children's Barred List where required.
  • DBS Update Service checks where applicable.
  • Identity and Right to Work verification.
  • Verification of QTS and relevant qualifications.
  • A full employment and education history, including appropriate explanations for any gaps.
  • Satisfactory professional references covering the required period.
  • Safeguarding and suitability checks in line with current statutory guidance.
  • Any additional compliance checks required by the individual school or placement.

All bookings are subject to satisfactory completion of Bright Star Talent's registration, vetting and safeguarding procedures.
