Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementing personalised learning plans, adapting teaching materials to meet each child’s unique requirements.
  • Encouraging social and emotional development, using strategies to promote confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Providing sensory and behavioural support, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Assisting with speech and language interventions, working alongside therapists to support children’s communication needs.
  • Helping with structured routines, ensuring a safe, consistent, and engaging learning experience.
  • Supporting personal care needs, including toileting and mobility assistance when required.
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback, contributing to individual education plans (IEPs) and liaising with SEN professionals.

Requirements:

  • Having previous experience working with children with SEN in a primary school setting is desirable.
  • Hold a relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or Special Educational Needs Support (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • Have experience with alternative communication methods, such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices (desirable).
  • Be familiar with positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Possess a patient, empathetic and proactive approach to working with children.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).

Why GSL Education?

  • Competitive daily pay rate reflecting experience and expertise.
  • Opportunity to work in a highly regarded specialist provision with access to ongoing professional development.
  • A dedicated consultant providing guidance and career support.
  • The chance to make a profound impact on students’ education, confidence, and future aspirations.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment with a commitment to inclusive and high-quality education.
