Job Title: Primary SEN Support
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: Immediate or After Summer 2025 start
Contract: Full-time, permanent

GSL Education are welcoming applications for a Primary SEN Support role in a welcoming mainstream primary school located in Portsmouth, Hampshire. This is a full-time permanent position, with the flexibility to start immediately or after the summer, making it an ideal opportunity for aspiring education professionals, including university students seeking meaningful experience in education.

About the Role:

As a Primary SEN Support professional, you will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to support pupils with a range of additional learning needs. Your role will focus on helping pupils access the curriculum, build confidence, develop essential life skills, and thrive in an inclusive learning environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to pupils with SEN, ensuring access to learning in line with individual EHCPs or support plans.
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to suit individual pupil needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SEN staff to monitor progress and adjust support accordingly.
  • Encourage independence and social interaction during learning and playtime activities.
  • Support with personal care or sensory needs, where applicable.

Job Requirements:

  • A genuine interest in working with children with SEN in a primary setting.
  • Previous experience supporting SEN (within schools or other relevant settings) is desirable but not essential.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude towards inclusion and child development.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • University students, especially those studying Psychology, Education, Social Work or related fields, are encouraged to apply.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
