Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is partnering with a specialist primary school to recruit a caring SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils develop resilience in a nurturing environment.

The role involves working closely with teachers to support emotional regulation, implement positive behaviour strategies and promote inclusive learning for primary pupils.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEMH needs.
• Confident working with primary-aged children.
• Understanding of trauma-informed approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support emotional regulation and develop coping strategies.
• Build strong relationships and act as a positive role model.
• Use behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Encourage participation in lessons and engagement with learning.
• Support social, emotional and academic development.
• Maintain clear boundaries and promote positive behaviour.
• Work with teachers and support staff to provide consistent, individualized support.
• Help create a safe, structured and nurturing classroom environment.
