Job description

Join to apply for the Primary Science Mentor role at Guardian Jobs.

We are seeking a full-time Primary Science Mentor to join our team of experts. Through your knowledge of and passion for primary science education, you will inspire transformational change in schools.

Location: Home based in East Midlands, North East England, North West England or South Wales Valleys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead our second Priority Areas initiative to strengthen primary science teaching and leadership, inspiring transformational change in participating schools.
  • Build close relationships with schools, creating a vibrant learning community based on mutual support and sharing of expertise.
  • Provide bespoke support to schools, multi-academy trusts, and other organizations, including developing and delivering training (online and in-person).
  • Work individually with Science Leaders and advocate for primary science regionally and nationally.
  • Create partnerships with organizations supporting science in the region.
  • Ensure collection of data to evaluate the effectiveness of Priority Areas and Regional Mentor activities against intended outcomes.

Salary and Benefits: Starting salary £49,149 (PSTT band E(ii)), with a cost-of-living increase expected on 1 September 2025. Employer pension scheme, sick pay, and maternity/paternity/adoption pay are included.

Travel: Extensive travel within the assigned region, with expenses reimbursed. Occasional meetings at PSTT’s Bristol office may be required.

Start Date: 1 September 2025, with potential support prior to this for recruitment activities.

Contract: 2 years.

Hours: 35 hours/week, usually Monday-Friday, with occasional evening/weekend work.

Annual Leave: 28 days plus public holidays.
