Job description

Support and inspire young learners as a Primary School Teaching Assistant in a vibrant and inclusive primary school setting.

Sense Education is looking to appoint a qualified Primary School Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Whitehaven. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children in their learning and development and who can bring both dedication and compassion to the classroom. Experience with SEND, either with children or adults, is desirable as it will support our school’s commitment to inclusivity.

The Role:
  1. Assist classroom teacher with lesson preparation and classroom activities.
  2. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them engage and succeed in their learning.
  3. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging all children to reach their potential.
  4. Work closely with teaching staff to support students who may benefit from additional guidance.
  5. Contribute to a collaborative, child-centred approach that nurtures individual strengths and needs.
Person Specification:
  1. Qualifications: A recognised Teaching Assistant (TA) qualification is required.
  2. Experience: Ideally, experience supporting individuals with SEND, either in a school or other setting.
  3. Skills: Strong communication skills and a collaborative, adaptable approach.
  4. Attributes: Patient, positive, and committed to helping children grow in confidence and skill.
School and Logistics:
  1. Mainstream primary school in the Whitehaven area with a warm, inclusive atmosphere.
  2. Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM Monday to Friday – Part time applications also considered.

If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis.
