Job summary

Teaching Tomorrow is seeking an SEN Primary School Teaching Assistant to support pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, and learning difficulties. You will work with teachers and SENCOs to implement IEPs and EHCPs, providing 1:1 and small-group support to boost academic and social development.

Role involves adapting materials, promoting independence and safeguarding, and collaborating with therapists and families.

Job description

As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Primary School Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to pupils with a range of additional learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential within an inclusive learning environment.Key Responsibilities:Support children with special educational needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and learning disabilities.Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement individual education plans (IEPs), education health and care plans (EHCPs), and targeted interventions.Provide one-to-one and small-group support to enhance pupils' academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual learning needs and abilities.Encourage pupil independence, confidence, and positive self-esteem.Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and achievements, providing regular feedback to teaching staff and parents where appropriate.Support classroom management and promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.Assist pupils with personal care needs when required, maintaining dignity and safeguarding standards.Use positive behaviour management strategies to support engagement and emotional regulation.Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, external professionals, and families to ensure consistent support for pupils.Ensure compliance with school safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies at all times.Skills and Qualities:Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Patience, empathy, and a caring approach.Understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive education practices.Ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of pupils.Strong organisational and teamwork skills.Achievements and Impact:Supporting pupils in making measurable academic and social progress.Contributing to creating an inclusive environment where all children felt valued and supported.Helping pupils develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills.Assisting in maintaining high standards of behaviour and engagement across the classroom.Why join Teaching Tomorrow?Flexible supply work to build experience and confidenceOpportunities for long-term roles and potential permanent placementsExposure to a variety of school environments across BedfordshireOngoing support and guidance from a dedicated consultantTeaching Tomorrow is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
