Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming Sunderland primary school from September 2026. The role supports pupils across EYFS to KS2, delivering high-quality learning and providing cover as needed.

The ideal candidate will hold a recognised HLTA qualification, possess substantial UK primary school experience, and demonstrate leadership in the absence of the class teacher while maintaining excellent behavior and communication with staff

Qualifications

  • A recognised HLTA qualification.
  • Recent experience in a UK primary school.
  • Experience supporting pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
  • Ability to lead whole-class learning in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Flexible, proactive, and positive approach to supporting teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Responsibilities

Location: Sunderland
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: September 2026 - December 2026 (with the potential to be extended until April 2027)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience


Are you a passionate and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity in a welcoming primary school?


We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a friendly and supportive primary school in Sunderland from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the classroom, supporting pupils and teachers across the primary age range.


The Role

As an HLTA, you will work across the school, delivering high-quality learning experiences, providing classroom cover where required, and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will be confident working independently and as part of a team, adapting to the needs of different year groups.


The role will initially run until December 2026, with a strong possibility of being extended until April 2027.


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:


  • A recognised Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification.

  • Recent experience working within a UK primary school.

  • Experience supporting pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

  • The confidence to lead whole-class learning in the absence of the class teacher.

  • Excellent behaviour management and communication skills.

  • A flexible, proactive, and positive approach to supporting teaching and learning.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
