Job summary

Here in Northumberland Primary Care and in collaboration with Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust we are delighted to be advertising a part time Band 7 Mental Health Practitioner to join our friendly team. As part of this role you will be working into Railway GP practice, that sit within the Six Primary Care Networks covering Northumberland.

In this role you would be expected to work a variation of remote and in person appointments.

Qualifications

• Professional qualification and current registration as RNMH, RMN, RNLD or an equivalent AHP/Clinical Psychologist.
• Proven post-registration training with clinical experience/psychological interventions relevant to the post.
• Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in evidence-based psychological therapies relevant to Pathway.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial mental health consultation/triage, assessment and formulation, signposting and onward referral.
• Develop and deliver brief interventions suited to primary care patients.
• Collaborate with GP practices, PCNs and CNTW mental health teams with regular supervision.

You will also work closely with the clinical manager.

Inline with Community Mental Health Transformation we are forming stronger links with other primary care agencies, secondary care and voluntary organisations, to establish a multi agency approach to providing mental health care and treatment across the area in neighbourhood teams. This will ensure that people with mental health needs receive the right treatment, at the right time, by the right people.

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Practitioner working in primary care, you'll work autonomously within the GP practices offering initial mental health consultation/ triage, assessment and formulation, signposting and onwards referral as well as providing brief interventions suited to patients in primary care.

You’ll work at the forefront of developing an innovative approach to mental health in primary care. You’ll have excellent interpersonal skills, be committed to delivering excellent patient care and have extensive experience of working in a range of mental health services. You’ll be supported by the practice teams that you work alongside daily as well as having regular opportunities for formal supervision and peer support with other mental health practitioners working across the PCN and county.

Person Specification

Education and qualification

Essential

• Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
• Proven track record of post registration training and clinical experience/ psychological interventions relevant to the post.
• Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in evidence based psychological therapies relevant to Pathway.

Desirable

• Experience of working within a community or primary care team.
• Non medical prescriber

Knowledge and experience

Essential

• Experience of collaborative working across agencies and professional disciplines.
• Demonstrate an understanding and have experience of delivering effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance Ability to work autonomously and within a team
• Experience of Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
• Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
