Offender health is an exciting and challenging specialism with significant Public Health and Long-Term Conditions agenda. Significantly, the management of acute, long-term, and substance misuse presentations represents a large cohort of these patients and requires understanding of primary care.

HMP & YOI Styal is a female prison.

Main duties of the job

Support the Head of Healthcare in operationally leading the provision of high-quality clinical health care services, ensuring a consistent and coordinated approach to the delivery of evidence-based practice. Responsible for monitoring daily performance of the nursing team and service delivery against key performance indicators, including working towards the HJIPs (Performance indicators), and effectively driving improvements to patient care and experience. Collaborate with subcontractors, partners, and team leaders to ensure the provision of high-quality, evidence-based patient care and the efficient use of resources, maintaining visibility and accessibility to patients and staff. Support the Head of Healthcare by taking responsibility for maintaining the Care Quality Commission standards and audits against the KLOE. Represent the Head of Healthcare in local meetings with the Prison and other interested parties, e.g., Coroner's court. The post holder is expected to be a role model, leading others in line with our shared values: Working Together, Integrity, Respect and Recognition, Compassion, and Innovation.

Job responsibilities

A Primary Care Manager is needed to engage with this team, continuing its healthcare transformation. The successful candidate will provide clinical management and expertise to a small, diverse primary care team forming part of the senior team. We are looking for someone with excellent skills who can clinically prioritize and manage patient journeys. Experience of offender health is desirable; however, we welcome individuals who are multiskilled across complex care pathways. The role requires excellent communication skills and dynamic work practices. We seek someone to deliver care comparable to that of the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing policy and procedure and supporting the nursing team to ensure care of the highest standard.

Person Specification
Education and Training
Essential
  • Registered Healthcare Professional with current appropriate registration, e.g., Nurse with NMC membership.
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development at postgraduate level, including delivery of evidence-based care
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Sustained successful experience in a management operational role, working in a complex environment with multi-disciplinary health professionals
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of effective practice changes to support regulatory compliance, e.g., CQC, Regulation 28
  • Experience of leading teams in complex environments to implement organizational change and deliver successful outcomes
  • Experience of effectively managing a service working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups and understanding the complexities they present
  • Lead on implementation of quality initiatives
  • Experience managing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships
  • Experience leading clinical governance
  • Understanding and application of confidentiality principles
Desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of the government's offender health agenda
  • Experience managing offender care or secure units
  • Experience conducting and supporting research
