Job summary

NHS Jobs in Guildford is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to work under the Nurse Manager and assist the clinical team in delivering prescribed patient care programmes according to defined guidelines and protocols.

You will support a wide range of duties including healthchecks, ECG recording, phlebotomy, wound care, lab sample processing, vaccine handling and chronic disease monitoring, with responsibilities extending to maintaining environments and assisting with minor operations.

Responsibilities

• NHS Healthchecks
• Record ECGs
• Monitor blood pressure over 24 hours
• Collect blood samples for phlebotomy
• Perform spirometry testing
• Provide chaperone support
• Assist with wound care and dressings
• Process and manage lab samples requested by GPs/nurses
• Clean and maintain equipment
• Manage vaccine storage and cold chain monitoring
• Restock supplies, equipment and vaccines
• Support vaccination activities (B12, flu, pneumococcal, shingles) and clip/suture removal
• Monitor chronic disease and assist with health promotion
• Prepare and restock consulting rooms
• Support GP during minor procedures
• Assist with patient health assessments and surveillance
• Follow delegated clinical activities for named patients
• Contribute to data collection for health and wellbeing needs
• Assist with implementing new services as directed by Practice/CCG/NHS England
• Help maximise progress toward quality targets (e.g., QOF) and perform other duties as needed by the Nurse Manager

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

• NHS Healthchecks
• ECG recording
• 24 hour blood pressure monitoring
• Phlebotomy
• Spirometry
• Chaperoning duties
• Wound care/dressings
• Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
• Cleansing and maintenance of equipment
• Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
• Supplies, equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
• Vaccinations B12, Influenza, Pneumococcal and Shingles Clip/suture removal
• Chronic disease monitoring
• Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
• Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
• Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
• Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
• Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
• Implementation of new services as specified by either the Practice, CCG or NHS England
• Ensuring opportunities to reach targets eg QOF are maximised and completed. Any other duties deemed appropriate for the role by the Nurse Manager.
