Job description

Primary Care GPBrighton | 4–6 sessions per week | £84,660 per annum based on 6 sessionsHelp shape how primary care is delivered in your Brighton community. At IC24, we're building something ambitious in Brighton - and we're looking for GPs who want to help shape it.Over the last two years, our Brighton practices have been on a significant transformation journey. We've made substantial changes to the way we work and are now bringing our Sussex practices much closer together, creating stronger links between teams and sharing expertise, resources and support across our services. We're now taking the next step.Allyed Medical Practice, Church Surgery and School House Surgery are coming together as part of a wider vision for primary care in Brighton, with plans to move into purpose-built practices next year. This will give us the capacity to significantly grow our patient population and create a modern, sustainable primary care service for the future. We're looking for Primary Care GPs who want to be part of that journey. This isn't simply an opportunity to walk into a finished model and deliver the same clinics in the same way year after year. It's an opportunity to bring your clinical experience, ideas and judgement to a service that is evolving - and help shape what it becomes. If you enjoy improving things, working collaboratively and having a genuine influence on the way care is delivered, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll focus on
  • Delivering high-quality General PracticeYou'll provide comprehensive primary care through face-to-face and virtual consultations, clinical administration and home visits where appropriate. You'll have the clinical autonomy to manage your patients effectively, while being part of a supportive team that values good medicine and good patient care.
  • Building relationships with your patientsWe're looking for GPs who value continuity, take the time to understand their patients and enjoy the breadth and variety that General Practice offers. You'll care for a diverse population with a wide range of clinical, psychological and social needs.
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary teamYou'll work alongside experienced GPs, Practice Nurses, pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team. We're increasingly connecting our Brighton practices and wider Sussex primary care services, creating opportunities to share expertise, learn from one another and provide more joined-up care.
  • Bringing your clinical interestsOur practices support a broad range of clinical needs, including long-term conditions, mental health, sexual health, HIV care and women's health. We're particularly interested in hearing from GPs with experience or a clinical interest in Women's Health, but we're equally interested in what you can bring to the wider service. We want our GPs to be able to develop areas of interest and use their expertise to benefit both patients and colleagues.
  • Improving the way we deliver careThis is where your influence can really make a difference. As our services develop, there will be opportunities to contribute to quality improvement, clinical audits, health promotion, QOF, locally commissioned services and service development. We're looking for people who don't just identify what isn't working but are interested in working out how to make it better.
  • Helping shape the future of the practicesWe're ambitious about what our Brighton services can become. You'll have opportunities to work with clinical and operational colleagues to develop new ways of working, improve patient pathways and help shape the model of care as our practices grow. You won't be expected to simply fit into the way things have always been done. We want you to bring your experience, challenge constructively, share ideas and help us build a service that works better for patients and clinicians.

This is a role for a GP who likes to build

We're deliberately looking for people who are comfortable with change and motivated by improvement.

You may be at your best when
  • You're given a challenge and enjoy finding a solution
  • You like having a voice in how a service develops
  • You're comfortable when not everything is perfect yet
  • You enjoy working collaboratively rather than operating in isolation
  • You can adapt when priorities, processes or services change
  • You see opportunities where others see problems
  • You enjoy sharing your experience and learning from others
  • You care about the wider patient population, not just the individual consultation
  • You want to leave a service better than you found it

If you're looking for a completely established practice where your role is simply to deliver clinics within a fixed model, this probably isn't the opportunity for you. But if you want to help build the future of primary care in Brighton, influence how care is delivered and see the impact of your ideas, this could be a very exciting time to join us.

Who this role suits
  • You’ll be a GMC-registered GP included on the National Performers List who enjoys working collaboratively and wants to play an active role in developing primary care.
  • You'll bring: Experience or a strong clinical interest in Women's Health
  • A broad interest in General Practice and confidence managing a varied caseload
  • Experience caring for patients with complex clinical needs, including mental health, HIV and gender reassignment
  • Strong clinical judgement and a commitment to evidence-based care
  • A genuine commitment to continuity of care and building long‑term patient relationships
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Flexibility to work across our Brighton practice sites
  • A positive and adaptable approach to change
  • A commitment to high-quality, compassionate patient care

Most importantly, you'll be a GP who cares about how primary care works, not just the care you personally deliver.

Let's be honest about the opportunity

General Practice is rewarding, but it can also be demanding. You'll care for patients with a broad range of health needs, balancing face-to-face consultations, telephone appointments, clinical administration and occasional home visits. Some clinics will be busy, and you'll regularly make complex clinical decisions while managing competing priorities. You'll also be working across practice sites and within a service that is continuing to change and develop. We don't want to pretend everything is already perfect. We're building and improving - and that's precisely why this is an interesting time to join us. You'll have the support of experienced colleagues and a wider IC24 primary care community, but you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to how the service develops. If you're a GP who is resilient, adaptable, clinically curious and motivated by making things better, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference here.
