Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (Behaviour Focus) - Full-Time - Bedford
Location: Bedford
Start Date: September 2025 (or ASAP)
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:30am - 4:00pm, early finish on Fridays

Tradewind Recruitment are working with a nurturing and inclusive Primary SEN School in Bedford to recruit a Teaching Assistant with a strong focus on behaviour support. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of children with complex needs and behavioural challenges.

The School
This specialist provision caters for primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), and speech and language difficulties. Many pupils require consistent behavioural support as part of their educational and emotional development.

The Role
As a Behaviour-Focused SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work closely with class teachers to support pupils aged 5-11 on a 1:1 or small group basis

  • Support pupils presenting with challenging behaviour, using strategies such as positive reinforcement, emotional regulation and de-escalation

  • Help create a safe and structured environment to enable pupils to access learning

  • Implement individual behaviour plans and work collaboratively with therapists, SENCOs and family support teams

  • Encourage pupils to build positive relationships and develop social, emotional and academic skills

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with behavioural needs or SEMH

  • A calm, consistent, and proactive approach

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and building trust with pupils

  • A background in education, youth work, care, or psychology is advantageous
