Pricing Manager

Location: Fleetwood

Salary: Up to £50,000

Contract: Full time, permanent

About Ruby Energy

At Ruby Energy, we’re more than just an energy supplier. We’re a growing business focused on helping UK SMEs manage their energy needs through flexible, commercially driven solutions and exceptional customer service.

Established in 2002, we have built our reputation on understanding our customers, responding quickly to market changes and finding the right solutions for their businesses. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Pricing Manager to take ownership of our pricing strategy and help shape the next stage of our commercial development.

The Role

As Pricing Manager, you will take overall leadership for the pricing of energy contracts across Ruby Energy, covering both new and existing customers.

This is a commercially important role at the heart of the business. You’ll work closely with Sales, Trading, Regulation and Executive Management to ensure Ruby’s pricing remains competitive, profitable and responsive to changing energy markets.

You’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining the pricing structures that underpin our automated quoting environment, ensuring our systems deliver the right price for the right customer, while maintaining appropriate commercial controls and profitability.

With the introduction of our new Titanium Pricing & Billing and Sales Hub systems, this is an exciting opportunity to help shape how pricing operates within a modern, increasingly automated environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of pricing strategies that support business growth, customer acquisition, margin and risk objectives.
  • Work closely with sales and trading to ensure pricing remains competitive, commercially effective and aligned with current energy market conditions.
  • Own and maintain the cost stack, pricing assumptions and pricing structures that underpin customer quotations and margin management.
  • Maintain and develop the pricing matrix within Titanium and Sales Hub, ensuring automated quoting reflects the appropriate commercial strategy and customer characteristics.
  • Ensure pricing appropriately reflects factors including new versus existing business, internal sales versus Third Party Intermediary (TPI) sales, commission structures, credit risk, payment method, back-dated pricing and other relevant commercial considerations.
  • Maintain appropriate controls around automated and bespoke pricing, including negotiable pricing and discount approval in line with delegated levels of authority.
  • Monitor energy markets daily and throughout the trading day, identifying significant market movements and taking appropriate action to ensure prices offered to customers remain commercially appropriate.
  • Monitor the operation of automated daily market pricing to ensure market updates are applied correctly, and pricing remains aligned with current market conditions.
  • Integrate pricing methodologies with costing, hedging strategy, trading activity and demand forecasting to support effective margin and risk management.
  • Lead and project manage significant customer pricing changes, including the twice-yearly Electricity Market Tracker reviews and quarterly Gas Variable repricing.
  • Work with Regulation to ensure pricing practices comply with Ofgem requirements and other relevant regulatory and legal frameworks, including requirements relating to the Price Cap, REMA and PPM.
  • Support statutory reporting and respond to Ofgem and other regulatory information requests, including detailed analysis where required.
  • Maintain appropriate deemed and default rates in accordance with regulatory requirements and ensure published rates are accurate and clearly communicated on the Ruby Energy website.
  • Act as the pricing subject matter expert for new product development, new sales channels and commercial opportunities.
  • Monitor competitor pricing, market developments and industry trends, using these insights to inform pricing decisions and maintain Ruby Energy’s competitive position.
  • Provide commercially meaningful reporting to the board and executive Management, covering pricing, margin and portfolio performance and relevant market developments.
  • Work with finance where appropriate to ensure alignment around financial controls and provide accurate pricing and commission information to support financial processes.
  • Lead and develop the Pricing function, directing the work of others and supporting performance and capability development.
  • Identify and implement improvements to pricing processes, systems and controls to reduce risk, improve efficiency and support better commercial decision making.
About You

We’re looking for a commercially minded pricing professional who understands that successful energy pricing is about balancing competitiveness, customer acquisition, margin and risk.

You’ll be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where market conditions can change quickly and pricing decisions can have a direct impact on business performance.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Proven experience in pricing, margin management or a comparable commercial/analytical function.
  • Strong understanding of profit, margin, cost structures and commercial pricing models.
  • Experience within energy, utilities, financial services or another regulated or market-driven environment would be highly advantageous.
  • An understanding of energy markets and the relationship between pricing, trading, hedging and market movements.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interrogate data and translate analysis into commercially sound decisions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills, with experience developing and maintaining complex pricing models.
  • Experience working with billing, pricing or CRM systems and analysing system-generated data.
  • Strong project and change management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver against deadlines.
  • An understanding of regulatory requirements and the ability to interpret and apply relevant rules would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to explain complex commercial and financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For
  • Commercially pragmatic – able to balance growth, competitiveness, profitability and risk.
  • Highly analytical – comfortable working with complex data, pricing models and market information.
  • Market aware – constantly alert to changes in the energy market and their impact on customer pricing.
  • Technically capable – able to understand and improve the systems and models that drive automated pricing.
  • Collaborative – able to build effective relationships with Sales, Trading, Regulation, Finance and Executive Management.
  • Decisive and responsive – confident making informed pricing decisions in a fast-moving market.
  • Improvement focused – always looking for ways to make pricing more effective, efficient and robust.
  • A strong leader – comfortable directing the work of others, managing performance and developing the Pricing function.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or higher-level qualification, or equivalent strong academic background.
  • Ideally 3–5 years’ experience in a comparable pricing, analytical, commercial or margin management role.
  • Experience within the energy or wider utilities sector would be desirable but is not essential for the right candidate.
