Job description

This role is about building the bridge between the actuarial element of pricing and the software disciplines required for building productionised models. The crossover mindset between actuarial and software development is essential to create an environment for developing market leading pricing models that can be efficiently maintained under a pricing platform and create intelligent MI.

The role

Support: To support to the Pricing Development Team.

Actuarial and Technical Excellence: Supporting in the standardisation processes and methodologies across pricing models, establish and maintain coding standards, and leverage new platform functionalities to enhance pricing tools and datasets.

Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong internal relationships across the company and represent the company externally at relevant events to support effective decision-making and collaboration.

Reporting and Documentation: Ensure comprehensive and accurate documentation of work, providing necessary commentary, insights, and findings in line with company policies and actuarial best practices.

Process Improvement: Support process improvements, manages risks, and maintaining high operational standards.

Key accountabilities

Actuarial

• Support the standardisation of processes and methodologies across all pricing models by working in collaboration with Head Office
• Support the maintenance of the coding standards and principles for all new and updated scripting by working in collaboration with Head Office
• Support the best practice testing and release controls accompanied by appropriate sign-off documentation
• Support the leveraging the value of new platform functionality as it becomes available
• Support the standardisation of the pricing tool datasets and development of all Generic MI

Relationship Management

• Build strong and effective relationships within the business, encouraging cross Company team working to facilitate effective business decisions
• Represent the company externally at any appropriate events

Reporting

• Ensure appropriate documentation is completed for allocated work with the necessary commentary, insights and findings in line with HDI Global Specialty policies and procedures, and actuarial best practice

Process Improvement

• Working to maintain high operational standards and supporting the identification of potential process improvements
• Report any existing or new risks, as well as significant control failings/weaknesses or events that may arise to the head of function

Skills & experience

• Experienced user in programming languages used for the construction of pricing tools and data manipulation (e.g. Python, SQL, PowerBI, etc)
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and VBA for excel
• At least 3 years’ experience of general insurance pricing, ideally London Market.
• IFoA part qualified or equivalent experience. This role can be considered at an Analyst or Actuary level.
• Extensive and varied knowledge of actuarial best practice and market standards in pricing
• Ideally experience of working with HyperExponential’s Renew software and Python in the ongoing development of single risk pricing models
