Job summary

TfL in London seeks a Prevention Manager to lead a programme of activity under the WVA Strategy, improving prevention and victim support for staff and managers. You will coordinate with internal teams and external partners, providing expert advice and ensuring stakeholders are informed.

The role requires strong project management, strategic communication, and ability to influence across a matrix organisation.

Qualifications

  • Experience of producing good quality reports, briefings and data to influence senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, sponsor, scope, develop, implement and evaluate projects to tackle WVA.
  • Manage all aspects of WVA projects including delivery plans, risks and benefits.
  • Collaborate with TfL’s operations, operators and contractors to address WVA concerns.
  • Represent TfL and build relationships with industry groups, police and justice partners.
  • Develop WVA communications and engage staff through management advocates and champions.
  • Provide advice and guidance on WVA and prevention activity in key business areas.
  • Line manage one PB2 Prevention Officer.

This role is responsible for a programme of activity made up of a number of specific projects, that will all help deliver the WVA Strategy, improving WVA prevention activity, victim support services and providing support for staff and managers. You will also be responsible for specific business areas – ensuring key stakeholders are informed and included in WVA work, providing advice and guidance and technical expertise on WVA and prevention activity

Key accountabilities
  • To lead, sponsor, scope, develop, implement and evaluate specific projects to tackle WVA. For example rolling out new safety equipment, new systems, tackling WVA hotspots and taking action against WVA triggers
  • To manage of all aspects of WVA projects including delivery plans, stakeholder management, risk mitigation, benefits realisation, interdependencies and transfer to business as usual.
  • To work closely with TfL's operational businesses, operators and contractors to understand their concerns and requirements in relation to WVA and coordinate action to address these.
  • Represent TfL and build positive relationships with industry groups, the police and criminal justice partners to promote TfL's interests and activity and learn from them.
  • Develop WVA communications and engagement activity, including managing networks of management advocates and staff champions to ensure all staff and managers are aware of WVA activity, their own responsibilities and how to find advice and support
  • Be responsible for specific business areas – ensuring key stakeholders are informed and included in WVA work, providing advice and guidance and technical expertise on WVA and prevention activity
  • Line management of one PB2 Prevention Officer
Key interfaces

Key internal interfaces including Directorate of Security, Policing & Enforcement, Bus Operations, Sponsored Services, LU Customer Services, Employee Communications, Human Resources, Safety Health & Environment Directorate, Legal and Occupational Health, Communications Directorate, Tech and Data Teams

External interfaces include the Mayor's Office, GLA members, Police services and the judicial system i.e. Courts, Crown Prosecution Service and Justice units, our operators and contractors, Rail Delivery Group and other industry groups.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of the major issues affecting the provision of policing and transport services in London
  • Excellent understanding of London's Transport network and its associated safety issues
Skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels - obtaining buy-in from key stakeholders
  • Excellent ability to coordinate large-scale portfolios of projects in a matrix environment
  • Ability to engage and motivate staff - fostering a culture of safety within TfL and across our operators and contractors
  • Ability to analyse complex information to produce recommendations for Board level
  • Excellent organisational and project/programme management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances
Experience
