Job description

Job summary

Newport Pagnell Medical Centre has an opportunity for a prescription clerk/pharmacy assistant to join our busy prescribing team, at the heart of our patient care service. This role is offered on a part-time basis, for 22 hours per week working across 4 days.

Main duties of the job
  • Understand the electronic prescribing system within the practice.
  • Process repeat prescriptions daily, ensuring compliance with practice protocols.
  • Handle weekly prescriptions for vulnerable patients and address related queries.
  • Ensure all prescriptions are signed by a GP, ready for collection within 48 hours, and prepared for daily collection by local pharmacies.
  • Perform regular searches on drugs requiring monitoring to minimize adverse effects and ensure current medication authorizations.
  • Promote cost-effective prescribing by switching to generic drugs when appropriate and encouraging use of local formulary options.
  • Manage prescription queries from healthcare professionals, including GPs, nurse prescribers, hospital staff, pharmacists, and practice reception/administration staff.
  • Handle medication changes from hospital letters, updating patient records with new or adjusted medications, and inform patients of changes and review requirements.
