Prescription Clerk

We are looking for a Prescription Clerk to join our team.

The Surgery's Prescription Clerks are responsible for the provision of a responsive repeat prescription service delegated to the prescription team as appropriate. To deliver the technical aspects of prescription preparation to ensure the safe prescribing of medicine. To deliver an efficient prescription service, ensuring service targets are met and errors are minimised. In addition, the post-holder will be required to support the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the strategic prescribing objectives of the practice are met.

Your main work location will be Portswood Surgery, however, you may be required to work from any one of our four sites, these are located:

*Portswood Surgery

*Nicholstown Surgery

*Homeless Healthcare

Main duties of the job

Process repeat prescription requests received by phone, email, post, slips and the online access system, in accordance with practice protocol.

Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe.

Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a 48-hour timeframe.

Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items.

Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections.

Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require.

Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician.

Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintain an accurate recall system.

Effectively liaise with external services i.e. district nurses to ensure medications are arranged for housebound patients.

Input data into the patient's healthcare records as necessary.

Deal with all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner.

Ensure you are keeping Patient information updated and that Patient information is always secure /kept confidential.

Promote electronic prescription service and on-line ordering.

Collate information from medication related queries and forward onto medicines manager or appropriate healthcare professional in a timely manner.

Run analysis reports and gather information from a variety of sources for continuous improvement, safe management of repeat prescriptions, and to co-ordinate medication reviews or changes.
